Research on mindfulness treatments for education, health, and mental health increased exponentially (Farias & Wikholm 2016). Social workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval. The field of clinical supervision is growing exponentially, and new information may emerge that supersedes or supplements these course materials. In particular, the course will instruct practitioners to plan collaboratively to meet a client’s treatment goals using: a) objectives for enhancing a client’s self-efficacy and motivation for changing problematic substance use and related behaviors; b) psychoeducation about the processes of therapy and recovery; and c) methods for relapse prevention. The first section of this course articulates a structure for treatment planning by which clients can participate in setting meaningful goals and objectives for therapy.Recently, however, reviews of mindfulness-based interventions have re-assessed the data, especially because of small effect sizes and a lack of real control conditions (Farias & Wikhom 2016).
